About Rabbi Neal Scheindlin

An engaging teacher and lover of rabbinic literature, Rabbi Neal Scheindlin brings two decades of experience in day school education to The Jewish Family Ethics Textbook.

A native of Philadelphia, Rabbi Scheindlin graduated summa cum laude from La Salle University in that city. He received an M.A. and ordination as a Rabbi from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in 1986. JTS awarded him the Shefrin Prize for academic excellence and the Scharps Prize for the graduating student showing the greatest appreciation for the literature of the Talmud.

After working in several synagogues, Rabbi Scheindlin joined the faculty of a pluralistic Jewish high school in Los Angeles. He wrote curriculum to share with students his love of rabbinic literature and his enthusiasm for making the ancient words speak to the issues of our time. He teaches Talmud and Biblical Commentaries to rabbinic students at two Los Angeles seminaries. When not studying and teaching Talmud, he reads widely in world literature, listens to jazz, and suffers with Philadelphia sports teams.
